About Us

The Amphion Quartet has performed at the Mostly Music Festival with such renowned artists as Ani Kavafian, Carter Brey, and Ettore Causa. In the summer of 2010 they were invited to the Beethoven Institute at Mannes College, and the Music@Menlo International Program in California. They recently performed at the Chelsea Art Museum in NYC and will be performing for a Japan Benefit Concert in NYC on May 7th. In June of 2011, the Quartet will be performing at the prestigious O.K. Mozart Festival in Bartlesville Oklahoma, and have been invited as the Protégé Quartet-in-Residence at Chamber Music Northwest this summer in Portland, Oregon.  This summer they will have the opportunity to collaborate with acclaimed composer August Read Thomas and will be performing her String Quartet Sun Threads.

Highlights of the 2011-2012 season will include an appearance at the Schneider Concert Series in NYC, a solo appearance with the New York Classical Players and a World Premier performance of a string quartet by John Sichel in New Jersey.

Violinists Katie Hyun and David Southorn, violist, Wei-Yang Andy Lin, and cellist, Mihai Marica, having played chamber music in many different configurations and venues, first joined together for a performance at Sprague Hall at the Yale School of Music in February, 2009. The overwhelmingly positive audience reception at this concert was the inspiration behind their mutual desire to pursue a career as the Amphion String Quartet.
